Travel Of Summary of 5 Day 4 Night Kidepo Valley National Park Wildlife and Karamoja Tribes Safari Tour

Day 1: Transfer to Kitgum/Gulu

The first day of your 5-day Kidepo National Park safari is basically for driving. Considering the journey requires about 11-12 hours to reach the park. You will be picked up as early as 7:00 am and make an early start on your journey to Gulu which is about 7-8 hours. Kidepo National Park is far placed – northeast of Uganda, bordering Kenya to the east and South Sudan to the North. The journey can be very exhausting to drive direct to the park thus making it necessary to break the journey in Gulu and proceed the next day!
You will have a stopover for about 2 to 3 hours at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for Rhino trekking for a chance to see the rhinos as they were only found in this Sanctuary. Enjoy your lunch then proceed to Gulu town arriving late afternoon. Dinner and overnight at Churchill Hotel Gulu

Day 2: Transfer to Kidepo Valley National Park – Game Drive

On the second day of your 5-day Kidepo National Park safari, you will make your final drive to Kidepo Valley National Park. Wake up for breakfast and embark on a 3 hours’ drive to Kidepo National Park where you will embark on a game drive in Narus Valley in anticipation of seeing herds of buffalos, zebras, elephants, giraffes, hyenas, and cheetahs. You will enjoy a slow drive and you can be sure to seize picture moments while on your game drive and you can have stops at any moment you please.
Proceed to the lodge and spend the evening at leisure admiring the wilderness. Dinner and overnight at Nga Moru Wilderness camp for mid-range/Kidepo Savannah lodge – tents for budget

Day 3: Game Drive in Kidepo Valley

We shall do a Game Drive and a cultural walk on the third day of the 5 Days Kidepo National Park tour. You will enjoy breakfast as you admire the true wilderness and an out-of-the-world experience! When breakfast is done, you will set out for another rewarding game drive through the open savannah, rocky outcrops, forests, and rings of mountains. Drive extensively up to Kanangorok Hot Springs and brace yourself for photo opportunities and chances of catching sight of more wildlife especially lions sitting on the rocks as they scan the park for possible prey. Drive back to the lodge to relax and have lunch.

In the afternoon, head out for a cultural tour of the Karamojong people for a truly unique experience. The Karamojong culture is still pure and unique from most other tribes in Uganda; they have rejected civilization and still live like in ancient times. The Karamojong are predominantly pastoralists and live purposely to fight for their cattle as it is in their belief that every cattle in the world belongs to them. They are a very interesting group of people with a very unique culture visible in their way of dressing, cooking, dancing, and other daily life activities. A visit to the Karamojong is a truly rewarding experience you should look forward to. Later transfer back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Game Drive and Transfer to Gulu

You will do another game drive on the fourth day of the 5 Days Kidepo National Park safari before you head back to Gulu. You will have breakfast check out the lodge and go for your last game drive in this true wilderness. Every day presents a different sight you can expect to increase your game count. Transfer to Gulu where you will enjoy lunch and spend the rest of the day relaxing. Dinner and overnight stay at Churchill Hotel Gulu

Day 5: Kampala and Departure

On the fifth day of the 5 Days Kidepo National Park safari, you will have breakfast early and proceed to Kampala with lunch en-route arriving late afternoon then transfer to Entebbe airport for your onward flight or be dropped at your own booked hotel in either Entebbe or Kampala.

Day 1

    Day 1: Depart to Kidepo National park.
    Today our guide will pick you and start the drive to Kidepo National park (nominated as Africa’s leading parks in 2013 by the world travel awards). The Park lies in the rugged, semi-arid valleys between Uganda’s borders with Sudan and Kenya, gazetted as a national park in 1962; it has a profusion of big game and hosts over 77 mammal species as well as around 475 bird species -

    The Park’s altitude ranges between 914m and 2,750m above sea level. The park contains two rivers Kidepo and Narus which disappear in the dry season, leaving just pools for the wildlife. Time permitting you can go for your first game-drive in the late afternoon/evening after check-in at your accommodation. Journey Time: 6 hours

Day 2

    Day 2: Game drives & Hot Springs
    After breakfast proceed for an early morning game drive; as long as you wish, a park ranger will help you spot the lions that may be sitting on the valley’s various rocks.

    Other wildlife includes elephants, leopard, bush duiker, jackal, bushbuck, bush pig, ostrich, buffalo and much more, in the wild Narus Valley. After lunch, go for an afternoon game drive through to the hot springs via the palm tree lined Kidepo River, Search for ostriches and leopard tortoises along the way. Finally dinner and overnight.

Day 3

    Day 3: Game drive in the morning and visit local communities/Cultural tour.
    After breakfast today you visit the Cultural Groups and explore the fascinating, ancient culture of the Karamojong. Visit traditional homesteads, sample local dishes and hear stories of the folklore of this remote tribe. In the afternoon, you may opt to relax at your accommodation or go for an optional game drive or enjoy a safari walk through the park.

    Day 4: Transfer to Lira.
    After breakfast, you proceed to Lira; the road to Lira will be rough, and dusty depending on the weather condition. Lira is a city in Northern Uganda. It is the main municipal, administrative and commercial centre of Lira District. The coordinates of Lira are: 02 14 56N, 32 54 00E (Latitude: 02.2490; Longitude: 32.8999).
