Lake Bunyonyi lies in south western Uganda between Kisoro and Kibale. It is one of the few lakes in the region that is rumored to be free of biliharzia and safe for swimming. On your way to Lake Bunyonyi, you will stop over at the equator in Mpigi.

At this point, there are two cement circles marking the equator line and it is worth stopping if you are traveling to Masaka or Kampala for a photo moment. Also watch a demonstration by local entrepreneur on how water swirls in opposite directions in the northern & southern hemispheres at the equator line.

Another reason that makes the equator a worthwhile stop are the great shopping bargains. The point has got several craft shops and art galleries run by individuals and organizations. These craft stalls sell souvenirs and handmade products while some with marks talking about the Equator.

Coming face to face with these Gorillas is the most amazing experience you can ever have! You will have a chance to take pictures and enjoy the Gorillas from a close range observing adults feeding, groaning and resting as the youngsters play and move backward and forward in a pleasantly comical demonstration.

Once in a lifetime What an amazing experience. We did this 9-day tour, but in hindsight, I would have added a couple of days. Musa was so helpful in getting us set up for our trip and was very responsive when responding to my questions. Once we were picked up for our trip from Entebbe Airport, our driver Moses, was fantastic. He was very patient with all our questions and helped us to really appreciate Uganda and it’s people. What an amazing country. Everyone was so welcoming and we always felt safe. We did underestimate the amount of money we needed for tips, but they also were happy with US$. Being with the chimps in their natural habitat was a great experience, but the Mountain Gorilla trek was amazing!! The hike was a good distance and not easy, and the tree-climbing at queen Elizabeth national park, but certainly worth all the hard work. I would recommend Ultimate Wild Safaris. They were great and reasonably priced.
